The Long Range Scanner will reveal ore veins and ore patches up to 100 chunks (32x32 area) in each direction from its current location. The scanning pattern is a square spiral from its location outward.

The Long Range Scanner does not reveal (or generate?) terrain chunks, saving savefile size. Still expect some performance hit while the scanner is working.

Once the scanner has scanned all possible chunks, it will go into an idle mode, awaiting deconstruction.

Each Speed module (min 1, max 5) adds 0.6 MW of power draw and adds 1 to the denominator for the seconds per chunk calculation. (2 seconds in the numerator, 1 to 5 in the denominator, for a seconds per chunk maximum of 2, and minimum of 0.4)

Each extra Range module adds 15 chunks of range to the scanner, with its base range of 40 chunks.

A maximum size scanner costs 14100 Construction material and consumes 5.5 MW.
